Lucy and Sully were inseparable at the shelters…
The past of both dogs is fairly unknown. Lucy was a stray and housed by the shelter. Sully was once adopted but was sent back to the shelter. They became instant buddies and Lucy, being a few years older, became a parental figure to Sully.
Alaina Brinton saw Lucy’s picture online and visited the shelter to visit her. Brinton’s earlier dog died due to old age and wanted to welcome a new pup into her home. Lucy seemed perfect for her.
When Brinton wanted to adopt Lucy, they sent a very clear message that they were a two-for-one package…
The shelter informed her that Lucy is paired with another dog and if she’s interested to meet her friend. Brinton figured there won’t be any harm meeting them both.
She was surprised to see the closeness between the two dogs. She only wanted to take one dog but after seeing them she immediately fell in love with both of them. It wasn’t hard to decide to adopt them both.
She was surprised to see the closeness between the two dogs…
“I fell in love right away,” Brinton said. “Besides, it was obvious Sully was looking to Lucy to show him what things were or weren’t okay, and I wouldn’t have had the heart to split them up.”
Sully and Lucy were nervous at their new home at first. But the support they showed each other reassured them.
And didn’t have the heart to split them up…
“The same way they feed off of each other’s excitement, they also fed off of each other’s growing comfort,” Brinton said. “They settled in together, and figured out the new routine like a team. It was perfect, and I think it was a much easier transition for each of them because of the company of the other.”
And after seven long years, Lucy and Sully are still best friends. They do everything together no matter where one is the other is always near.
But after seven long years, their friendship is still going strong and will be in the years to come.
“They’re buddies forever,” Brinton said. “Anytime they’re settling in together, Lucy will give Sully a couple of licks on his forehead and he just looks like he’s so pleased.”
“Even when he’s roaming around the dog park, Sully will come back and check on Lucy every couple of minutes or so,” she added, “He says hi, walks with her for a bit, and then he’s off again. She doesn’t seem to mind.”
