Take Regular Short Breaks:

Students in popular culture might have given us this image of people studying at all hours and throughout the night to get things done, but doing things this way isn’t the best option for your health and wellbeing. In fact, it’s much better to take regular short breaks; get up for around ten minutes per hour of working and do something different, like:

  • Going for a short walk
  • Making yourself a drink 
  • Getting a healthy snack
  • Listening to music
  • Doing some yoga
  • Meditating

Exercise Regularly:

Keeping up with a regular exercise routine is essential as an online student, even when you’re busy. Set aside sometime in the day to get active; it doesn’t have to be a long time or very strenuous exercise. If you have a lot to be getting on with, incorporate exercise into your breaks by going for short walks or jogs. At least three times a week, you should try and exercise for at least half an hour at a time. This could be a walk, jog, cycle ride, swimming, a workout in the gym, or a spin or dance class; anything that you enjoy that gets your body moving and your heart pumping is ideal. 

Get Enough Sleep:

When you’re busy with everything else that you have to do on top of getting your degree online, it can be tempting to stay up late into the night finishing off assignments or getting on with required reading. But over time, this will start to catch up with you and affect your health. And now more than ever, you need to make sure that your body is getting the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep per night in order to ensure that you have ample energy to complete your daily activities. To improve the amount and quality of sleep that you are getting each night, consider the following:

  • Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time so that your body gets into a routine.
  • Upgrade your sleeping area if it is cluttered or looking a little worse for wear to make it more relaxing and comforting.
  • Invest in blackout curtains or earplugs if noise or light from outside is interfering with your ability to sleep at night.
  • Put all electronic devices away at least an hour before bed and do something more relaxing instead, like taking a bath or reading a book.
  • If you’re still having trouble sleeping, it might be worth seeing a doctor and rule out any underlying health conditions.

Eat and Drink Well:

When you’re juggling study with work, family commitments, and everything else, it can be all too easy to turn to takeout or ready meals more often than you usually would. But, making the effort to fuel your body with the right nutrition will make a big difference in how you feel as you study. 

If you’ve started to feel sluggish, run-down, and tired all the time then it could be because you are not getting the right nutrients. Prepare healthy snacks like fruit and vegetables that you can have next to you while you study and keep a water bottle nearby so that you remember to stay hydrated.
